I visited Rome for a few days while on my spring break while studying abroad. It was my second time in this beautiful city and I had a small checklist that I was determined to complete. Of course most of it involved food (what’s new?).
- Try a real Italian espresso.
My friends and I were on our way back to our Airbnb when we found this authentic Italian coffee bar, it’s called “Bar Ottavilla”. It was the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. It was actually my first time ever trying espresso and I loved it! My friend however, not so much.. It’s a strong flavor that requires a sophisticated taste palette.
2. Next on my list, my friends and I wanted to embrace all things Italian and have an authentic dinner on a red and white checkered table cloth (LOL). We managed to find this hidden little neighborhood with a few restaurants including this one which felt like you were in someone’s home! It was the tiniest restaurant and we managed to get a table before it got busy. The food was great and wine was even better!
3. Shop ’til you drop! Nothing will inspire you more than the confident and stylish Italian women who walk the streets dressed in the nicest clothes. Here in America, the prices of luxury items and European based brands are a lot higher than when you’re purchasing from their home country, of course. I like to take advantage of the opportunity and buy everything that catches my eye. Sorry not sorry.
4.When in Italy, I’m constantly on the search for the best Gelato. It’s honestly hard to find a gelateria that doesn’t look good because on every street you’ll find one and you’ll have to stop at each one. The lovely thing about Italy is that you can enjoy your dessert by the most magnificent buildings like the Trevi Fountain. It’s the best dessert to cool yourself off underneath the Italian sun. My favorite flavor is nocciola and I never order anything else.
5. If you’re feeling extra adventurous then attend a real italian “futbol” match. The Italians don’t mess around when it comes to soccer. The experience I had at the AS Roma soccer game was unlike any other! The amount of energy the crowd has is incredible and it’s something you should experience.
That’s all for now.. Ciao until next time beautiful Rome!
